Overview of Charterhouse School

Founded in 1611, Charterhouse occupies a 215-acre site located in Surrey. It has many different architectural styles and is known as the most beautiful campus in England. Charterhouse has produced many social elites that are now renowned in their respective fields such as academics, arts, and sports. Past students include former UK Prime Minster Robert Jenkinson and Marxist economist Maurice Dobb. The school provides top facilities for drama, painting, and music. In addition, Charterhouse School is closely tied to football; the most popular sports among students even now. Many sports stars such as a former England football captain graduated from Chaterhouse.

CHARTERHOUSE YOUNG LEARNERS SUMMER COURSE

The 2-week course is designed for students aged 8-12, and aims to bring authentic British lessons and the essence of British culture to students. It improves students’ overall English level, broadens their horizons, and emphasises IQ and EQ development.

Academic Curriculum

A small class ensures students have a great learning experience

  • English

    Students study English materials and create their own stories to improve reading, writing, speaking and grammar. They can practice pronunciation and oral English in class or during drama performances.

  • Science

    Through intriguing and interesting science experiments, students learn basic knowledge of chemistry, physics and biology. These experiments include, “how to drop an egg without breaking it”.

  • English History

    Students learn about two important periods of English history, with a focus on how these periods influence current culture and British society. They will go to Godalming, the famous historical city in England, to gain first-hand experience.

  • Geography

    Students learn about the UK’s geographical features, including major lakes, rivers, and mountains, as well as the impact of climate change. As Charterhouse is situated in an area of “outstanding natural beauty”, pupils may use what they have learnt to analyse the reasons for the geological formation of the area.

British Etiquette

Learning British etiquette in daily life: the teachers will instruct students on how to improve their table manners

  • Drama

    Students receive guidance from a local theatre director during play rehearsal. The drama course is the highlight of this summer course. The students will learn how to acknowledge their feelings and become more confident in self-expression. At the end of this class, each student will participate in a performance at the school’s theatre.

  • Art

    The art course at Charterhouse includes watercolours and drawing. Students may learn art appreciation basics and basic painting skills. Art works that finished during class or in their own time may be kept by the students as souvenirs.

  • Reading and diary writing

    At night students choose their favourite book in the library and read the book under the guidance of their teacher in order to develop their reading level. After reading, it is diary-writing time. Outstanding diaries will be read aloud in front of other students.

  • Visit to UK scenic spots

    Visit to UK scenic spots

    Students will visit many famous attractions, such as the London Science Museum, Marwell Zoo, Arundel Castle etc. These destinations are of educational significance since they are closely related to the subjects the student study in class. During the visit, students need to find answers to questions asked by the teacher and discuss their ideas in groups. In this way they can consolidate their knowledge and form a keen understanding of the history and culture of the UK.
